2009 State Presidents Lifetime Achievement Award
On Saturday, June 20, 2009, State President Salvatore Lanzilotta presented the 2009 State Presidents Lifetime Achievement Award to Nicholas M. Mauro, a member of the Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro Lodge #2319 in Smithtown.
This award is presented at New York OSIA’s Founder’s Day Ceremony which is held in Little Italy ... the place where OSIA was founded by Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro and five compatriots who came to the United States during the great Italian migration of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The event began with 11:00 a.m. mass at The Church of the Most Precious Blood on Baxter Street in the Little Italy section of Manhattan. After mass ... over 125 OSIA and family members made their way to the founding site at 203 Grand Street for a very short ceremony (it was raining quite heavily) and watched while State President Lanzilotta and National 1st Vice President Joseph DiTrapani placed a remembrance wreath at the very location of OSIA’s beginning. We quickly moved over to Il Cortile restaurant for lunch and the 104th Anniversary Celebration of OSIA.
We had an absolutely delicious lunch at Il Cortile (125 Mulberry Street) and sang the praises of the 104th Anniversary Celebration Committee ... Chairperson Sylvia Summa, Co-Chairperson John Fratta, Louise & Anthony Corsello, Margaret Forte, Marie Oddo, Toni Spinelli and Dan Colantone.
Finally, Nicholas Mauro was awarded the 2009 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. He was lauded for his outstanding service to OSIA ... serving as District I State Deputy; Chairperson of the NY State Daily Calendar program; member of the State Membership Committee ... serving as the Chairperson of New Lodge Formations and Board Member of the New York OSIA Day Care Center. In his own lodge, Nick had worked his way through all the leadership chairs until he reached the office of Lodge President. This is only a “tip of the iceberg” of Nicholas Mauro’s accomplishment in OSIA.
At the end of the day long event, Nicholas Mauro expressed his gratitude for his award and spoke about how proud he is to be of Italian heritage. He thanked his family, friends and OSIA members for attending and for honoring him in such a special way.
Nick Mauro is a true gentleman and certainly well deserving of this “once in a lifetime” New York OSIA award.
