Danielle Reed, Oceanside resident and Hofstra music major, opened up the festivities at ITALIAN DAY at Hofstra University by singing the Italian National Anthem for the over 500 people in attendance on a day where the weather could not have been better. Present were dignitaries from the Order Sons of Italy (OSIA), including State President, Carlo Matteucci, and his First Lady, Madeline.
Danielle, daughter of Jim Reed, Deputy Commissioner of the Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs, and soprano extraordinare, sings at several local restaurants, including OPERA Restaurant in Garden City and La Novella in East Meadow, where she performs Italian songs and Opera. Danielle sings in Italian, Latin, French, Spanish, Hindi, Punjabi and Korean and she also plays 14 instruments. Her superb voice has also landed her a singing date at the renowned FRIARS CLUB in New York City in January. Within the next year, Danielle will be traveling to India and to Italy to study different types of music, including Opera.
In commemoration of Italian Heritage Month, Ms. Reed will sing at a free concert on Monday, October 16th, 7:00pm-9:00pm, at the Long Beach Memorial Library which will be sponsored by the Michael Valente Lodge, #2667, Long Beach. During intermission, a very short film about the Sons of Italy will be shown and Italian cookies and refreshments will be served.
